A discount only helps if you use the whole year.

Compare expected use, not the headline discount

An annual subscription can be cheaper for a full year and more expensive for a short project. This tool compares the upfront annual price with the monthly price multiplied by your expected months of use.

  1. Enter prices for equivalent plans with the same features.
  2. Choose how many months you realistically expect to need the service.
  3. Check the savings or loss before committing to annual billing.

Example: a $15 monthly plan or $120 annual plan

Twelve monthly payments total $180, so annual billing saves $60 if you stay all year. Six monthly payments total $90, so the annual plan costs $30 more for six months of use. The plans break even at eight months. You need to use a ninth month for annual billing to save money in this example.

Read cancellation terms

The calculator assumes you can stop monthly payments before the next charge, that annual payments are nonrefundable and that the features match. Promotional prices, taxes, cancellation fees and prorated refunds may change the answer. A $0 monthly plan has no paid break-even point.

Do not count a cancellation as realized savings until the provider confirms it. Keep a renewal date and confirmation number in your subscription audit, and check your next statement. No cancellation service is connected to this tool.
